Friday Night Lights : The Lights Of Carrol Park
Jul 2nd, 2010 by Stephanie

FNL was all about the ship-hop this week if you couldn’t gather from the appearances by  T-Pain, 50 Cent and Get Cool. One interesting band this week is Sonny and The Sunsets. I was intrigued by the San Francisco quartet’s lo-fi 50’s indie sound.

Sonny and The Sunsets – Too Young To Burn
Trevor Dandy – Is There Any Love
24-Carat Black – I Begin To Weep
Get Cool – Easy
50 Cent – Crime Wave

Friday Night Lights : Original TV Soundtrack Vol.2
Jun 24th, 2010 by Stephanie

Friday Night Lights is known for having great music. After 4 seasons, music supervisor Liza Richardson knows exactly how to heighten the emotions. Whether it be a throbbing hip-hop beat on the football field, a raw ballad during a poignant moment of character development, or a country classic to remind us that we are in fact in Texas, its all done with subtlety and style.

Vol.2 of the series collection offers mostly the ballads and the indie rock  side of  FNL, but it is a good representation of the show’s overall mood.  While I was surprised to see songs like Great Northern “Driveway” (heard  during Matt’s father’s  funeral; a key moment this season) were not included, there is a lot to love here.  Key tracks include White Rabbitt “Percussion Gun”, Band of Skulls “I Know What I Am” and Augustana “Fire”. It’s a is low-key mix, but it makes for a great listen from start to finish.

If you can handle the spoiler clips, check out the video for White Rabbitt “Percussion Gun”:

Friday Night Lights : The Son
Jun 4th, 2010 by Stephanie

This week’s FNL didn’t have a lot of music, but given the dramatic story, I think it was the right call to let the emotions speak for themselves.

Rollins Band – What’s The Matter Man
Junkface – Atamakatahizaashi
Eddie Rabbitt – Drivin’ My Life Away
Great Northern – Driveway

Friday Night Lights : The Skin of A Lion
May 21st, 2010 by Stephanie

Friday Night Lights has had a lot of anger in these first few episodes and the mixture of rock and hip hop seems to coincide with that theme.

B.o.B – I’ll Be In The Sky
Montrose – Rock Candy
Maino featuring Swizz Beatz – Million Bucks
John Doe and The Sadies – Are The Good Times Really Over For Good
